Gran Nicoya Archeological Region, This ‘Papagayo-style’ pottery jaguar vessel, of which exists many varieties, depicts a jaguar as the main motif, with a complex, polychrome, neck with very stylized motifs pertaining to the cult of Quetzalcoatl, the main deity and civilizer of man among the peoples of the Mesoamerican cultures, and miniature jaguars. The Oto/Mangue, or perhaps Nahual speakers, who created this pottery line, and who lived in present-day Guanacaste region, were peoples of the Mesoamerican cosmological tradition.
