This painted balsa wood mask’s design – a bird totem - corresponds to the traditional diablo mask-type used by the Brunka in their annual ceremony, Danza de los Diablitos, seen in the upper part of the mask. It is fused with local fauna – specifically a chestnut billed toucan, a motmot bird, male resplendant quetzal as well as a trogon species.
A very creative piece, this mask has been carved from a single piece of wood featuring the classic ceremonial diablo mask type melded with ecological elements. Makes for stunning wall art.
