Traditional Diablo Mask 002

Macaw Tail

Hand carved and splendidly painted balsa wood. This is a finely decorated mask with another small mask coming out the side accompanied by a macaw tail feather flourish and yet it is a classic, ceremonial diablo-type mask used in their danza, or juego  – carved by the renowned Brunka mask maker, José González Lázaro, of Boruca village. This wall mask’s design corresponds to the traditional diablo mask-type used by the Brunka in the Danza de los Diablitos and the relationship between macaw feathers  and shamanism/healing.

  • Tribe: Brunka (Boruca)
  • Size: 8 ″ x 12″ (20 x 31 cm)
  • Artist: Jose González L.
