Traditional Diablo Mask 001

Multi-faceted Designs

This Brunka mask, with a fangs-up, sneereing expression – full of pride and confidence – displays magnificent multi-facted designs alluding to petroglyphs, jaguar pelts, forest foliage and under-wing, ‘false eye’, butterfly markings.

The mask itself corresponds to the traditional diablo mask-type used by the Brunka people in their Danza de los Diablitos.

The accomplished tribal artist, Edixon Mora L., of Boruca village, hand-carved this highly detailed piece in balsa wood.
