Toucanet Horns

This painted balsa wood tribal mask is typical of one worn in the Danza de los Diablitos. The aesthetic of which can evoke at times emotions of terror, haughtiness, pride, rage and so forth. Within the age-old diablito format, this toucanet horns mask features wild feline pelt, foliage elements, and ‘energy lines’ imparting ancestral power.

    • Hey there John! Thanks for the ‘shout out’ for Don Ismael. The truth is is that he really now has dropped off production drastically (I hope this does not bode ill). Usually we get a mask here and there from him (maybe every 2 months), but it’s been a while now and his son Melvin says that he is not doing so hot and certainly not producing. We feel lucky to at least have one piece still in the Namu collection that we got about 2 months ago – it’s Traditional Diablo Mask 011 (painted by his son) if you had not seen it.
