This Brunka ancestral vision as a devil mask holds a lot of presence. Carved from balsa wood and pigmented with achiote berry juice, this collectible ethnographic mask is a simple, but powerful diablo mask-type which has been used in the Brunka annual celebration for centuries. This mask portrays a cacique, or cheiftain, with a feathered headdress (feathers include quetzal, macaw and parrot species). Worn in the Danza de los Diablitos of 2012-2013 in the village of Boruca, Costa Rica.
