Used Ceremonial Mask 027 SOLD

Bat Mask

Spectacular indigenous art in mask form depicts a ferocious bat in the place of the more typical diablito. These personages, be they the demon-like diablitos, or certain (usually) predatory animals, symbolize the Native population before the invading antagonist in this choreography: the bull.

Worn in the Danza de los Diablitos of 2013-2014 in the village of Boruca, the participant’s improvised straps still adhere to the mask. The mask excels in both carving as well as theatrical impression, and has a powerful presence.
