This used ethnographic red devil mask was worn during the 2010-2011 tribal ceremonial event – Danza de los Diablitos – in the village of Rey Curré, Costa Rica. Such works of carved wood art are created by Boruca mask makers. The Danza de los Diablitos is annually celebrated in the two principal Brunka communities of Boruca and Rey Curré villages.
Unique wall art, this remarkable mask, carved from balsa wood and stained red, represents the Brunka people themselves in this venerable mystical/historic ceremony.
