Used Ceremonial Mask 021 SOLD


The mask represents the Brunka themselves in the personage of a shapeshifter – the diablito.  This traditional mask, conceived as a transformation mask: jaguar to human (part of Brunka cosmology). It was ‘played’, or worn, during the three days of the violent pitched battle between the many diablitos and the xamán (bull) – in the Danza de los Diablitos of  2016-2017 in the village of Boruca, Costa Rica.
