The Brunka tribe of the southern Pacific watershed of Costa Rica are best known for their ceremonial masks and mask art but, in this tribe of many creative men and women, there are many other kinds of amazing arts in a variety media. Naturalistic figures made from the engraved dried shell of the jícara fruit and painted balsa wood, fine painted canvases depicting Brunka cosmology, ideals and lifeways, traditional woven and naturally dyed textiles and more – in this section can be seen the breadth and depth of Brunka expression and artistic genius.
