Boy and Bananas
Costa Rican artist, André Kirkland Hall, born and raised in the Afro-Caribbean community in the Province of Limón on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. The medium used in this piece, a boy and bananas, employs conté and grease pencils and explodes with vivid tropical colour. Hall’s art reflects studies of people of African descent along Costa Rica’s south eastern coastline.
A Limón boy, eagerly looking to ‘earn his stripes’ as a salesman, he seems to be talking to a potential customer for his locally grown bananas.
