Afro-Caribbean Woman’s Portrait
Costa Rican artist, Eugenia Barrionuevo, resident of Manzanillo in the Province of Limón on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, uses these enamel ware metal crockery – typical of local kitchens – as the ‘canvas’ for her studies of Afro-Caribbean residents and the surrounding communities along this pretty and colourful coast. This particular study is that of a local woman’s portrait set within wide banana fronds and a bold-coloured textile.
