Description
Axe Chieftain Jade Amulet
Created in a lovely cut of green jade, this class of jade amulet – axe chieftain – represents an important amulet type that would have been a highly appreciated possession for its bearer as many of such types of dios hacha – axe gods – were created among these pre-European societies in the territory of present day Costa Rica.
This particular unisex jade amulet depicts a shaman or chieftain with a crown of two crocodile heads – the crocodile being a venerated animal of the many waterways in and around this jade producing region of Guanacaste and the northern plains of the Atlantic watershed.
