Trophy Heads Triad Amulet
This lovely cut of ‘wintergreen’ jade represents a triad of trophy heads – representing the decapitated heads of esteemed enemy warriors – a grisly, but important esoteric object/motif. The cultures that created these wearable pieces of jade held in high esteem the motif of ‘trophy heads’.
These amulets were power symbols that were very important to the wearer as they were buried with their owner for the afterlife. The ‘trophy head’ (cabeza trofeo) motif is also found in the goldwork, pottery and statuary stone sculpture of these regional pre-European cultures.
