Description
Gran Nicoya Human Head Vessel
This jewel of a pottery vessel, an armadillo bottle, clearly exemplifies the remarkable fusion of earlier South American oriented cosmology and Mesoamerican cosmology that accompanied the culture that brought it down from the north to today’s Guanacaste/Nicoya region of northwestern Costa Rica. Local ancient Corobici forms and motifs fused with later Mesoamerican forms and motifs after the arrival of the first Mesoamericans from 900 CE onward.
