Canoe Portage Bowl

This unique bowl – a canoe portage bowl – is a vessel and at the same time a sculptural piece. The main part of this piece, the vessel, is a canoe which is being carried by two heaving and puffing men in a ‘portage’ (physically getting a canoe overland to the next body of water to continue navegating). Most likely, these were ceremonial vessels containing a consecrated fermented corn liquor, chocolate beverage, medicine or incense.
