From the Central Valley/Caribbean Watershed Archeological Culture area (Central Highlands and North Caribbean Basin of Costa Rica) is one of many similar cult objects found in burial settings throughout this period in said region. The very type of fauna that the figurative part of this effigy bowl represents is somewhat ambiguous. What can be said for sure though is that this is a replica mammal-form pot.
This is a rather early (inscised surface design, mono-chromatic) pottery piece belonging to the archelogical period for this area known as the Early Formative Era (300-500 C.E.).
