Jaguar’s Smile

A more recent exploration of the Brunka mask making tradition, Brunka carvers use the balsa wood mask as a canvas on which to depict local flora and fauna. In this imposing composition, the artist has created a striking study of their venerated resident jaguar depicting the spirit of this feline and the famous “jaguar’s smile” – the look on this great cat’s face just before pouncing!
