A jaguar homage mask, at once honouring the spirit of this deft hunter and sublime resident of Brunka tribal territory, as well as the traditional ka’ish egua (carved “diablito” mask) fused into a seamless and stunning mask design.
This piece is a ‘transformation’ mask type – the ‘eco-diablo‘ mask type pays respect to striking local wildlife: the mighty jaguar in this case, combined with the ceremonial mask design used in their age-old tribal ceremony.
This mask is hand carved from balsa wood and vividly painted with a naturalist’s keen eye, as Sergio Gonzalez of Boruca village, possesses.
