Brunka diablito Fused with Jaguar

Stunning home decor wall art, this composition features, as central motif, the respected and venerated jaguar – an ubiquitous notion among the aborignal groups that still adhere to ancestral tradition throughout lower Central America, around which a friendly sloth is depicted. Both upper and lower forest canopy animals are celebrated in this whimsical ‘eco-mask’.

This is material culture of the Brunka tribe of Central America. This piece embodies the connectedness of the Brunka to their landscape and living beings living within it.  These are ‘eco-diablo masks’ inspired by the carved face masks  worn by the Brunka tribe’s traditional masked dancers, or ‘players’,  for the annual danza or juego de los diablitos.

Cleverly included in this composition is the penetrating visage of a jaguar embedded within this traditional diablo mask design. A carved balsa wood mask as a stupendous homage to Brunka culture.
