Vignette: Danza de los Diablitos, Boruca
This Boruca mask’s design corresponds to the traditional diablo mask-type used by the Brunka tribe in the Danza de los Diablitos fused with several Pre-Hispanic cultural objects from the Brunka tribe’s past: ceremonial pottery vessels. This particular culturally-themed mask is a rare expression in this mask tradition. The mask depicts a ‘pottery demon’ – a protector spirit of the Brunka ancestors’ cultural heritage.
