All My Relatives
With finely carved bas-relief and a warm and luminous cut of cedro (tropical cedar), this creative diablito mask, “All My Relatives“, is further enhanced on its surface with a lovely wood grain. So-called ‘primitive art’ worthy of wall art, this hand carved wood mask’s design corresponds to the traditional diablo mask type used by the Brunka people to represent themselves in their centuries-old Danza de los Diablitos. The antagonist, the toro (bull), represents the invading Spanish. Carved by a mask maker and ceremonial participant of the Maroto family, Boruca village, Costa Rica.
