Tropical Cedar Wood Chieftain Mask
Brunka tribe of Rey Curre village – southern Pacific coast watershed – hand carved mask from the rich, reddish tropical hardwood: cedro amargo. The theme is an ancestral chieftain.
This is a smaller model of a diablo mask typical of one worn in the Danza de los Diablitos in their village. It displays a classic Rey Curre village style (as opposed to the mask styles of the tribe’s principal village of Boruca).
