Diablo Source – contempory sculpture
A contemporary Brunka (tribe) sculpture investigating, within a segment of local balsa wood, the raw material carved to create the majority of their centuries-old ceremonial masks. The mask forms here are arranged in a flowing masaic-like composition. The modern Brunka people have roots in an ancient civilization that produced high calibre artisans and whose ancient expressions today’s Brunka intimately know and employ.
This piece can be suspended, or set upon a horizontal surface for display. We once had a customer who fashioned one of these Gonzalez-Rojas family pieces into a lamp stem!
