Traditional Diablo Mask 008

Out of stock

This intricately carved and painted balsa wood mask’s design corresponds to the traditional diablo mask-type used by the Brunka to represent themselves in their centuries-old Danza de los Diablitos. The antagonist, the toro (bull), represents the invading Spanish.  A classic diablo mask carved by the well known Brunka mask maker, Ricardo Morales D., of Boruca village. A scornful expression for a harlequin, this mask features a curious mixture of aggression and humour – typical of many Brunka masks.
