This carved and painted balsa wood mask’s design corresponds to the traditional diablo mask-type used by the Brunka to represent themselves in their centuries-old Danza de los Diablitos.
This striking piece, a winged demon mask, with its ferocious visage incorporates harmonious colour tones and intricate detailing. This mask is a ‘tour de force’ created by a Brunka mask carver of renown who lives in Boruca village.
