Description
Warrior Soul
This diablito mask – warrior soul – with intricately painted details in vivid colours (on carved balsa wood) is the work of renowned Brunka artist, Edixon Mora L. (Boruca village) and boasts a dynamic mask design with 3 different faces – the traditional kagbru (diablito in spanish) ancestral defender as the principal visage, and out to the sides 2 batlle-crying warriors.
This is a dynamic study in the traditional Brunka tribal style – this mask’s design-work also features symbols found on their ancestral petroglyphs – rock art that is scattered throughout this tribe’s territory, animal skins and ‘shamanic energy lines’. Complex in its execution and painted detail, a more impressive mask would be hard to find.
