Ancestor Chatting on Mobile
A classic Boruca village style diablo mask, worn by participants every year in the indigenous ceremony of the Brunka’s danza. This diablito dons a rather humourous theme (typical at times for this mask tradition) : in smeared achiote berry pigment and gold metallic paint, in the middle of the classic diablito mask, the carved has included the bust of an ancestor appearing to be chatting on his mobile!
This mask, carved from balsa wood, offers unique wall art decor. It was used in Boruca village in the Danza de los Diablitos of 2015-2016.
