Used Ceremonial Mask 028

Out of stock

Hand carved from one piece of balsa wood, this splendid coatimundi mask was worn almost like a helmet by the wearer. This take on the traditional diablito personage from the centuries-old Danza de los Diablitos, here, is celebrating local fauna and at the same time manifesting a metaphor: “we (the Brunka) are as the coatimundi – aboriginal to this territory”.

Used in the Danza de los Diablitos of 2015-2016 in the village of Boruca, this mask is accompanied with photo documentation of the piece being used in the danza.

  • Tribe: Brunka (Boruca)
