Carved from balsa wood, adorned with bird featherss, and painted – this detailed traditional mask would have a powerful presence for any space it adorns. Reflecting tribal cosmology, which involves notions of the nocturnal and diurnal realms, through this night hunter personage, this mask was worn to symbolize the nocturnal realm by a diablo dancer in the Brunka tribe’s venerable Danza de los Diablitos this year (valuable context images accompany this mask).
The mask was worn in the Danza de los Diablitos of 2016-2017 in the village of Boruca and it is accompanied by valuable photo documentation.
