Butterflies and Geometrics Basket
In this handsome composition – a butterflies and geometrics basket – butterflies with tribal cultural motifs on their wings, are interspersed around the middle of the piece with tropical blossoms.
Hand woven from split chunga palm leaf and natural dyes by the indigenous Wounaan of Panama. Such design themes are drawn from the flora and fauna of the Wounaan’s territory in the Darien region of Panama. This particular basket’s stitch technique is called the ‘combed stitch’ whereby the inner coiled structure is covered with a “combed” over stitch creating the outer “skin” on which the design is seen.
