Description
Sea Turtles
Hand woven by the Wounaan and Emberá tribes from split chunga palm leaf and utilizing natural dyes for colouring. This particular piece was created employing a ‘combed-stitch” – as it is called – due to its technique of creating a “skin” “combed” over the corrugated, coiledinner structure of the basket. This piece features a stylized repetition of lizards and a geometric zig-zag pattern around the top of this basket vessel.
The underside of the basket hides a lovely design surprise where these reptiles create a mandala around a central star motif.
