Jaguar Theme
Highly unique and rare chunga basket work fused with the art of tagua nut carving creating the ‘knob’ of the basket’s lid. Very few Native artist families create these amazing works among the Wounaan. Women are in charge of the basket weaving and male carvers create the animal sculpture on the lid. This particular basket features a handsome pattern created by the repetition of black and earth-tone feline paw prints on a cream background – a fitting complement to the carved tagua nut detail on the lid – a resting jaguar – magnificent hunter of the neo-tropical forests.
