This well executed Wounaan geometric basket creates an abstract night sky around the body of this piece. A technically demanding patterning consisting of symbols alluding to crescent moons and stars and ending with a scarlet starburst pattern on the underside of the basket. This intricacy is achieved through incredibly tiny and dense stitchwork.
These exquisite Wounaan tribal geometric design baskets, made from split chunga palm leaf and natural dyes, feature abstract design elements related to surrounding natural phenomena and patterns from the traditional body painting that the Wounaan still apply today.
