This mixed-media ‘Pre-Hispanic painted plaque’ is a composition created by painting motifs from pre-European contact cultures of present-day Costa Rica and delineating areas created by adhering different tones of real beach sand onto the piece.

This particular plaque is a study of Pre-Hispanic references of the mighty jaguar  – important and deified animal of Mesoamerica – applied to the polished surfaces of many of the famous poly-chrome pottery of the Guanacaste region, plus famous mythic petroglyphs found at the Guayabo ruins near Turrialba, Costa Rica.
