This large carved/painted balsa wood mask’s design corresponds to the traditional diablo mask-type used by the Brunka to represent themselves in their centuries-old Danza de los Diablitos.
This striking piece, melding seamlessly the venomous viper consuming the ceremonial masks composition below it. This mask is a ‘tour de force’ created by a Brunka mask carver of renown who lives in Boruca village.
