Predator and Prey
This remarkable ceremonial mask (hand carved balsa wood and painted) was used in the village of Boruca during the Danza de los Diablitos of 2017-2018.
This mask is a diablito mask (representing the indigenous population – specifically the Brunka warriors who resisted the invasion and subsequent European colonization) – with a furious expression, predator and prey are compressed into the one mask emphsizing traditional cultural and the natural habitat that surrounds the Brunka people.
