Description

Rey Curré Village Mask

Carved from local balsa wood and painted (horse hair beard), this used Rey Curré village mask ceremonial mask would be of interest to serious ethnographic mask collectors. It’s attractive rustic authenticity typifies the very “non-tourist-y”, non-commercial aspect of the mask making tradition among the Brunka that indeed enjoys wide appeal with collectors and visitors to Costa Rica.

This mask was worn during the 3 days of the traditional tribal event, the Danza de los Diablitos in Rey Curré village, and has suffered scuffs and bashes (missing horn tips) from multiple battles against the European forces and culture represented by the bull (turí in the Brunka language).

Note: Comes accompanied with all-important photo documentation of the mask in use during the Danza de los Diablitos
