Utter Fear

A ceremonial mask type used in their annual danza, the modern Brunka people have roots in an ancient civilization that produced high calibre artisans and whose ancient expressions today’s Brunka intimately know and employ. An expression of utter fear is the overriding effect in this mask design.

Hand carved and painted balsa wood. These masks usually express unadulterated ferocity, but at times the expression can be other: solemnity, fear, surprise, humour, or pride.
