Description
Shamanic Animal Amulet
This attractive jade features a shamanic animal – the ave pico, ‘big-beaked bird’ – which is an often repeated mythic animal motif seen in many pre-European objects (made in jade, volcanic rock sculpture, gold and pottery) from today’s territory of Costa Rica. These extraordinary jade objects – amulets, ear-spools and labial pieces – were fabricated in the regions of Guanacaste and the Northern Plains of the Atlantic watershed.
